About the Book
Elizabeth Jane Howard's Cazalet Chronicles is widely regarded as one of the finest family sagas in modern British fiction, and this five-book paperback set brings the entire story together in publication order. The Light Years opens in the summer of 1937, introducing the Cazalet family as they gather at Home Place in Sussex, unaware of how the coming war will reshape their lives. Marking Time follows the family's teenagers and adults through evacuation, separation, and the daily strain of wartime Britain. Confusion tracks the Cazalet children toward adulthood as London burns and Sussex holds its breath. Casting Off carries the family into the uncertain years just after the war. All Change, published in 2013, closes the saga in the 1950s with a final turning point at Home Place. Across all five novels, Howard writes with precision about marriage, motherhood, class, and the compromises that hold families together, drawing on her own upbringing to shape unforgettable characters including Polly, Clary, Louise, and the Duchy.
