Overview
This ten-book paperback collection gathers Dick King-Smith's most cherished animal tales into one irresistible set for young readers. From the piglet who dreams of herding sheep in The Sheep-Pig to the streetwise hedgehog of The Hodgeheg and the golden-egg-laying goose of The Golden Goose, each story blends gentle humor, farmyard charm, and big-hearted animal characters. Perfect for building a home library or classroom shelf, this bundle introduces children ages 7 to 9 (Grades 2-4) to a beloved British storyteller whose warmth, wit, and love of animals have delighted generations of young readers around the world.

About the Books
Dick King-Smith spent twenty years farming in Gloucestershire before turning that hands-on animal experience into some of the best-loved children's fiction of the twentieth century, and this ten-book set showcases that talent at its finest. The Sheep-Pig tells the story of Babe, an orphaned piglet adopted by a kind-hearted sheepdog who teaches him to herd sheep, a tale that inspired the beloved film Babe. The Hodgeheg follows Max, a determined young hedgehog who must find a safe way across a busy road to reach the park's lily pond. The Invisible Dog imagines a lonely girl's wish for a pet coming true in the most unexpected way, while The Golden Goose brings farmyard fortune to a struggling family. Smasher introduces a lively collie and her boisterous puppies learning the responsibilities of growing up, and The Mouse Family Robinson, The Jenius, and The Swoose each spin family-centered animal stories full of humor and heart. Harry's Mad gives readers a chatty, larger-than-life parrot with a mind of his own, and Dinosaur Trouble rounds out the set with a playful prehistoric adventure. Throughout the collection, King-Smith's storytelling stays rooted in the countryside life he knew firsthand, giving every animal character a genuine personality. Themes of courage, loyalty, resourcefulness, and compassion run through each book, making the set ideal for independent reading and classroom read-alouds.
