Overview
Meet Hank Zipzer, the lovable fourth grader who tries his hardest even when school seems determined to trip him up. This ten-book paperback collection follows Hank through classroom catastrophes, family mix-ups, and friendship dramas, narrated in his hilariously honest voice. Created by Henry Winkler, drawing on his own childhood struggles with dyslexia, and co-written with Lin Oliver, the series turns school stress into laugh-out-loud comedy with real heart. Great for reluctant readers ages 7 to 9, these quick, funny chapters show kids that being different is nothing to be ashamed of, and that trying again after a flop is what counts.

About the Books
Hank Zipzer: The World's Greatest Underachiever follows a good-hearted, imaginative fourth grader who is smart in ways school tests never seem to measure. Inspired by Henry Winkler's real childhood experience of undiagnosed dyslexia, the series turns Hank's daily struggles with reading, spelling, and staying out of trouble into warm, laugh-out-loud comedy that never talks down to young readers. Across all ten paperbacks in this set, Hank tackles oral reports gone wrong, disastrous field trips, unexpected pets, big family moments, and an occasional summer school sentence, all while trying to keep his cool in front of his best friends and stay one step ahead of his no-nonsense teacher. What makes the series so beloved is how honestly it treats Hank's setbacks. He forges notes, invents excuses, and takes shortcuts that almost always backfire, yet the stories never punish him for being different; instead they celebrate his creativity, humor, and persistence. Short chapters, large print, and plenty of comic mishaps make these books especially welcoming for reluctant or struggling readers, while the emotional honesty keeps confident readers engaged too. Teachers, librarians, and parents of kids with learning differences often turn to Hank Zipzer because it reflects real classroom anxieties with humor instead of judgment. Whether Hank is bluffing his way through a book report, adopting a runaway iguana, or discovering an unlikely talent for ping-pong, each story reinforces the same reassuring message: everybody stumbles, and effort and honesty matter more than getting it perfect the first time.

About the Authors
Henry Winkler is an actor, producer, and best-selling children's author, widely known for his role as Fonzie on Happy Days. He created the Hank Zipzer series after being open about his own struggles with undiagnosed dyslexia as a child, wanting kids with learning differences to see themselves as capable and funny rather than 'bad at school.' Lin Oliver is an author, producer, and co-founder of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Together, Winkler and Oliver co-wrote all seventeen original Hank Zipzer novels, blending genuine emotional insight with fast, funny storytelling.
