Overview
This Khaled Hosseini box set brings together three New York Times bestselling novels in one paperback collection: The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and And the Mountains Echoed. Together they trace decades of Afghan history through unforgettable characters bound by friendship, family, and sacrifice. Hosseini's lyrical, emotionally honest prose has made him one of the most widely read novelists of his generation, with his books selling more than 40 million copies worldwide. Whether read back to back or savored one at a time, this collection offers a rich, immersive journey through love, loss, guilt, and redemption set against the backdrop of a changing Afghanistan.
About the Books
The Kite Runner opens in 1970s Kabul, where Amir and Hassan, the son of his father's servant, share a childhood bond that is shattered by a single devastating betrayal. Decades later, guilt drives Amir back to a homeland transformed by war in search of a chance at redemption. A Thousand Splendid Suns shifts focus to Mariam and Laila, two women from different generations whose lives intertwine in a Kabul household under the brutal realities of the Taliban era. Their unlikely friendship becomes a source of quiet courage and endurance amid hardship. And the Mountains Echoed widens the scope further, following siblings Abdullah and Pari after a heartbreaking childhood separation, and tracing how that single choice echoes across continents and generations. Across all three novels, Hosseini writes with deep compassion about displacement, family bonds, and the long shadow of the past. His storytelling is grounded in real historical upheaval, drawing on his own experience as an Afghan-born writer who emigrated to the United States, giving each narrative an authenticity that resonates with readers worldwide. This set is ideal for readers of literary and historical fiction who want character-driven stories that illuminate both personal struggle and the wider human cost of conflict. Read individually or as a complete set, these novels reward close attention and often inspire rereading, making them popular choices for book clubs and classroom discussion alike.
