Overview
This five-book paperback set collects the first five adventures of Joe Dever's Lone Wolf saga, the interactive gamebook series that made a generation of readers the hero of their own story. Flight from the Dark, Fire on the Water, The Caverns of Kalte, Chasm of Doom, and Shadow on the Sand follow the last of the Kai Lords as he battles the Darklords threatening Sommerlund. Each title lets readers choose their own path, tracking combat skill and endurance while deciding Lone Wolf's fate page by page.
About the Books
The Lone Wolf series pioneered a distinctive style of interactive fiction, blending gamebook mechanics with an epic fantasy narrative set in the world of Magnamund. Readers take on the role of Lone Wolf, sole survivor of a Kai monastery massacre, using his emerging combat and mystic disciplines to outwit the Darklords across five connected adventures. Numbered paragraphs, combat tables, and inventory tracking give every playthrough real stakes, while Joe Dever's worldbuilding and Gary Chalk's classic artwork bring Sommerlund, Durenor, and the icy wastes of Kalte to life. Flight from the Dark opens with a desperate warning mission, Fire on the Water sends Lone Wolf racing for a legendary sword, and the remaining titles raise the stakes through frozen caves, a besieged citadel, and hostile desert terrain. Long treasured by fans of choose-your-own-path storytelling, this set preserves the tactical decision-making and dice-driven combat that defined the genre in the 1980s.

About the Author
Joe Dever (1956-2016) was a British author and game designer best known for creating the Lone Wolf gamebook series, first published in 1984. Drawing on his experience running tabletop role-playing campaigns, Dever built the fantasy world of Magnamund and wrote dozens of Lone Wolf titles over three decades, later founding his own imprint, Holmgard Press, to continue the series. Illustrator Gary Chalk contributed artwork to the earliest books, helping define the series' visual identity that fans still recognize today.
