Overview
This two-book collection brings together the acclaimed fiction of Oyinkan Braithwaite in one brand-new set. Cursed Daughters, her highly anticipated 2025 novel, weaves a generational tale of curses, love, and family secrets across the years. Together, these two novels showcase Braithwaite's signature blend of dark humor, propulsive plotting, and sharp emotional insight, making this collection an excellent introduction to a celebrated contemporary voice in literary suspense fiction today.
About the Books
My Sister, the Serial Killer, Braithwaite's debut novel, was released internationally in 2018. Set in Lagos, the story follows Korede, a dependable nurse repeatedly called upon to clean up after her younger sister Ayoola, whose boyfriends have an alarming habit of dying. As Korede's loyalty is tested by a new complication, the novel unfolds with sly wit and mounting tension, exploring sisterhood, complicity, and the blurry line between love and self-preservation. It is a compact, fast-moving thriller that has become one of Braithwaite's most talked-about works. Cursed Daughters, published in 2025, expands into a haunting, multi-generational family drama. The story is described by its publisher as an engrossing, twisty tale of curses, romance, and tangled family ties, following women whose lives are shaped by a legacy they did not choose. The novel moves between past and present, examining how superstition, desire, and inherited trauma echo across generations of women bound by blood and by a curse that refuses to be forgotten. Braithwaite brings emotional precision and narrative control to this broader, more atmospheric canvas. Placed side by side, the two novels reveal the range of Braithwaite's storytelling: one a tightly wound, darkly comic thriller, the other a sprawling, myth-inflected saga, both anchored by her sharp eye for the complexities of women's relationships, family loyalty, and the secrets that bind them.
