Packed with battles and shifting loyalties, this set is essential reading for fantasy fans.
About the Books
The Faithful and the Fallen is John Gwynne's sweeping debut saga, set in the Banished Lands, a war-torn realm where old gods stir and ancient prophecies threaten the balance between light and dark. Across four volumes, Gwynne weaves multiple points of view, following warriors, kings, exiles, and reluctant heroes as loyalties are tested and alliances crumble under the weight of a coming war. The story draws on Iron Age and Celtic-inspired history, giving the world a grounded, tactile feel even as gods and angels move behind the scenes. Malice opens the saga by introducing the fractured kingdoms and young characters whose fates shape everything that follows. Valour widens the scope as war ignites and trust is pushed to breaking point. Ruin drives the storylines toward a devastating reckoning, while Wrath brings the quartet to its hard-won conclusion. Throughout, Gwynne balances large-scale battles with intimate, character-driven moments, giving readers heroes to root for and villains whose motivations feel painfully human. Themes of courage, faith, betrayal, and sacrifice run through every volume, rewarding patience with mounting tension as the saga steadily builds toward its conclusion. Fans of grounded, character-first epic fantasy inspired by real-world history and mythology will find plenty to love across all four richly detailed, emotionally resonant books that make up this celebrated collection.
