Overview
The Vagrant Trilogy collects Peter Newman's acclaimed grimdark fantasy saga in one brand-new paperback set: The Vagrant, The Seven, and The Malice. Set generations after a catastrophic invasion tears the world apart, the story follows a mute, nameless wanderer carrying a sword, a baby, and a goat across a corrupted, monster-ridden landscape toward the last bastion of humanity. Told with spare, cinematic prose, this trilogy blends bleak survival horror with genuine tenderness, earning Newman a devoted following among fans of dark, character-driven epic fantasy.
About the Books
Peter Newman's Vagrant Trilogy is a genre-bending epic that opens with The Vagrant, in which a scarred, silent protagonist treks across a ruined land overrun by demonic forces unleashed through an interdimensional Breach, protecting an infant and guided only by a living sword named Gamma. His journey toward the distant Shining City becomes a meditation on hope, mercy, and endurance amid unrelenting devastation. The Seven widens the lens: years later, the wanderer's now-grown ward must confront the scattered remnants of the Usurper's infernal army while new factions jostle for power in humanity's fractured remains. The trilogy closes with The Malice, where Gamma's ancient hunger stirs once more, forcing a reckoning that ties together every thread of sacrifice and survival introduced across the earlier books. Newman's world-building favors texture and atmosphere over exposition, immersing readers in blighted forests, crumbling settlements, and eerie, transformed creatures without ever losing sight of the intimate human (and inhuman) relationships at the story's core. Praised for its unusual structure, emotional restraint, and refusal to rely on dialogue-heavy exposition, the trilogy has become a standout in modern grimdark fantasy. Collected together, these three novels offer readers a complete, self-contained arc that rewards patient attention and delivers a satisfying, hard-won resolution to a story built on quiet resilience against overwhelming odds.
